Text | [Boston vs. Baltimore 9/11/1872] The grounds looked more like the arena of a circus than a ball field. To guard against the slipping and sliding of Tuesday, sawdust in huge quantities had been sprinkled over ll the moist spots and back of the home plate. Its effect was magical. The moisture yielded before it, and after a few innings had been played but little difference from former games could be observed in the fielding of the two clubs. |
