Text | [Union of Morrisania vs. Surprise 5/19/1866] Out of about a hundred unfairly-pitched balls during the game, only twice did the umpire give the striker his base on “three balls”. Why do not umpires ignore calling balls and strikes altogether, and also balks. They might as well break the rule in one instance as in another. |
