Text | Valentine is considered the laziest umpire ever seen in the League. He should wear a mask and stand up close. The Sporting Life July 13, 1887 Umpire Doescher has very wisely concluded to wear a mask, and is having one specially made for himself. The tip that cut his chin in Chicago the other day also lamed his shoulder. It caromed from his shoulder to his chin. Valentine should follow suit or he will some day have his handsome phiz damaged.
