Text | [editorial content][regarding the AA umpires] To enable the umpires to feel secure in their positions Mr. Byrne, as chairman of the umpire committee, has made special contracts, by which umpires can only be removed for certain causes, and then only on written charges and specifications, with ample opportunity for the delinquent to be heard in his defense. This is as it should be. An actual offence, not a fancied grievance, should alone cause the dismissal of a man occupying such a prominent and important position. |
