Text | Umpire John Kelly has improved upon Gaffney's method of umpiring from behind the pitcher and actually judges balls and strikes from behind second base, with men are on bases. He says that he can judge balls and strikes just as well from that position without running the risk of interfering with the catcher's throwing to the infielders. Pitchers Carey and Welch back up Kelly's claims. |
