Text	[Atlantic vs. Mutual 8/17/1868] The first grand match between these clubs, of Brooklyn and New York, took place on Monday last on the Union grounds, on which occasion over 12,000 people were present in and around the inclosure, over 8,000 people paying the admission fee to the field, a result which benefitted the Atlantics to the extent of $200 each, a good day’s work. New York Dispatch August 23, 1868 [Note: contradicted by the following, from the same issue:] [Atlantic vs. Mutual 8/17/1868] The estimate of the attendance at the Atlantic match vary from 10,000 to 20,000. Now, the number who paid for admission was 8,405. The receipts were $2,100, of which $700 went to Cammeyer, and $700 to each of the clubs, the club treasuries taking $70 each, and each member of the two nines $70. A good day’s work. The average yield per man is about $10 per match. The Mutuals took in the most on bets, about $5,000 changing hands. New York Dispatch August 23, 1868
