Text | [reporting on the organizational meeting of the Union League, later renamed the Eastern League] The above [resolution] was adopted in pursuance of the predetermined policy of the new body to work in harmony with all other organizations, in the interest of the National Game. While the reserve rule was regarded with disapprobation, as an unjust and arbitrary measure, yet it was deemed unwise to resist it, as that would lead to a breach with the older organization and open the door to revolving, and kindred evils, which would entail lasting injury to the game. It was decided also to send representatives to the annual meetings of the League and Association to see what relationship can be established with those bodies. |
