| Text | Although much has already been written regarding the difficulty between the Stars, of Brooklyn, and the Olympics, of Washington, we make room for the following letter from our regular correspondent... [A letter signed by one “H. A. Dobson, Washington Base Ball Cor. N.Y. Clipper” follows.] New York Clipper July 9, 1870 [note an item later in the same issue about Dobson being struck by lightning.] [Boston vs. Olympic of Washington 5/5/1871] The umpire finally selected was H. A. Dobson, of the Flower City club of Rochester, who lost a leg in the war, but who moves about nimbly on crutches. He is well known as the base ball editor of the New York Clipper, and as a staunch friend of the Olympics... Worcester National Aegis May 13, 1871, quoting a special dispatch to the Boston Journal [Boston vs. Olympic of Washington 5/5/1871] There was considerable difficulty in selecting an umpire, but a compromise was finally effected on a department clerk here, who, although he had assisting in getting up the Olympic organization, was not a member of it.
