Text | Some experiments have been made in the matter of stealing second base under the new pitching rules. It is found that the added time consumed by the ball in traversing the extra five feet materially increases the chances of a swift runner's making second safely on a steal, and that nothing less than quick and accurate throwing down by catchers will prevent an increase in the number of successful larcenies of bag No. 2. since Chicago has by long odds the best base-running team in the League, the champions should be able to improve this opening more effectively than any of their antagonists. |
