Text | [from a sketch of Ross Barnes] He was among the first to practically introduce the new well-known “sacrifice hits,” which were written up in baseball books of 1869-1870. In fact, as a “scientific batsman”–one who goes in to place a ball advantageously–we never saw Barnes’ superior. |
