Text | Editor Emporia News: The Commonwealth, of Topeka, last week seemed to be very jubilant over the defeat of the Jayhawker base ball club of Emporia. Yea, exceedingly glad. "Jayhawkers defeated by a country nine from Parkerville!" All we have to say for the Parkerville club is that it is composed of gentlemen, and need not fear playing the "Westerners" of Topeka. We wish the Topekaites to understand the Jayhawkers are not nor never have been beaten. The game won by the Parkerville nine was won against a "Scrub" nine, and not the Jayhawker base ball club, they not having one day's practice. Topeka has not the club that can ever win back the honors they lost here last year, or why did they refuse to play the return game when we went there to play them during fair week? For the benefit of the rejoicing Topekaites we will inform them that the Jayhawker base ball club, of Emporia, disbanded last year, and as more than half of the members left, we have never reorganized. But there are enough of them left to keep Topeka in the rear as ballists. J.H. |
