Text | [Mutual vs. Atlantic 6/28/1869] Start then popped the ball up near short field, and Mills and Swandell both got ready to take it. C. Mills [catcher] called out “Third base,” instead of the player's name, and E. Mills, thinking he meant that he should take the ball and send it to third, grabbed it down just as Swandell was closing on it, and thus both lost it. |
