Text | Not long ago it was understood that the Athletics had given Matthews a promise that when his days of usefulness as a pitcher were over he would be kept on the pay roll, especially to train young pitchers. This job would suit Bob very well, but since Manager Bancroft came into power there has been a change of views. |
