Text | [Boston vs. Cincinnati 10/27/1877] The feature of the game lay in the fact that it was played with the pitcher’s position moved back five feet toward the second base. The effect was hardly perceptible in the batting, to everybody’s surprise, but perhaps one game is hardly a fair test. Boston Herald October 28, 1877 The interest in the game centered in the fact that it was played with the pitcher’s position moved back five feet as an experiment to see how it would effect the pitching. The effect was very slight and hardly perceptible. Cincinnati Enquirer October 28, 1877 |
