Text	[Von der Ahe] ridiculed the proposed ball players' union, and added:--”If such an organization is started and any of my players want to join it they can do so. There is a great demand for good players all over the country, but fortunately the supply will not be exhausted before the beginning of next season, and I am prepared to promise the St. Louis public as good a club next year as they have had this.” The Sporting Life November 4, 1885 The movement to establish a base ball players' protection union seems to have subsided as suddenly as it was started. It originated in the brain of a Cincinnati reporter, and got no further. The Sporting Life November 25, 1885
