Text	Force, Craver, Nelson and Nicholls all played finely as far as pitching ability was concerned. They can all play ball in tip-top style when they want to; but, unluckily for the teams they played with, they did not always feel in proper trim. They had too many “off days” as well as “too many telegrams.” Nicholls was short-stop of the Louisville nine when they were defeated by the Rochesters 9 to 1. It is a painful fact that less than honest service was rendered in the short-stop’s position in 1877 than in of any previous season since 1864.
