Text | [from the Harry Weldon's column] ...Elmer smith has this Winter acquired a new motion, which he uses effectually in watching bases. Elmer has a side step when a runner is on first almost equal to Jimmie Galvin's half-balk motion, which is known and spoken about the base ball world over. No one has ever yet succeeded in getting gentle James' exact motion, but Smith has a clever counterfeit. He used it effectively against the Pittsburgs the past week. If Elmer does not lose the art before the season opens the St. Louis Browns, Baltimores, Kansas Citys and other clubs who have daring a quick starters will come to grief by reason of this motion. |
