Text	[Empire vs. Social 8/30/1869] The ball had been hit foul by Dr. Bell, and popped up in the air pretty high; Higham gauged it nicely for a high bound, and it fell on the scorers’ table, bounded very high, and was caught by Higham. The catch was a good one, and was loudly cheered for; but Mr. Thorne, as the crowd prevented him seeing it, decided the striker “not out”. It would not have been out any way, as the table is considered in the same light as a fence, a house, or a tree in such cases. See Section 4 of Rule 3.
