| Text | The spacious lot of ground of the Olympic Club is located at Twenty-fifth and Jefferson streets, north of the Spring Garden Water-Works basin. The surrounding scenery is handsome and picturesque. The surface of the spacious lot is level, and the grass short, thus presenting a very pretty green velvet carpet of nature. Towards the southern part of the enclosure the headquarters of the club are located, beneath the grateful shade of a row of buttonwood trees. In the rear of the quarters a pump was sunk about two weeks since, by which arrangement cool, wholesome, soft spring water may be drawn in any quantity. The ground yesterday afternoon was the scene of considerable excitement of a pleasant character. Quite a large number of spectators were there, beautified by the presence of ladies, who seem to take as much delight in the game as the other sex. We observed, also, several distinguished gentlemen attracted to the scene. The greatest order prevailed, and everything passed off in the most excellent style. True, the “Olympics” were beaten, but they took the defeat good naturedly, while the “Actives,” at the conclusion of the game, gave three cheers and a “tiger,” with a hearty good-will. |
