Description

Hamilton Square on NYC's upper east side was between 3rd and 4th Avenues, and 66th-69th Sts., about where Hunter College now stands. This square should not be confused with the more modern Hamilton Square.

The early Hamilton Square was sold to developers in 1867-68. It covered 24 acres in all, 15 acres of which on the east side of 4th.

The New York Clipper, April 21, 1860 lists the home grounds of many NY area clubs. Hamilton Square was the home of the Metropolitan, Champion, Manhattan, Monument, Stuyvesant and Lexington Clubs.

Comment

Ryszek, "Baseball's First Inning" p. 65-66 says that by 1863, Manhattan had only one baseball grounds, at 63rd St. and 3rd Ave, citing WSOT March 28, 1863. This location sounds very much like Hamilton Square.
