The Richmond Times, July 11, 1866 announces the formation of this club, in the Union Hill neighborhood of Richmond. 

Richmond Dispatch, Aug. 1, 1866 has the Ashby to play the Richmond BBC, at Eba Park in Rutherford's Field, Grace and Franklin Sts.

Club probably named after CS hero General Turner Ashby.
