Description | The Poughkeepsie Eagle-News, July 20, 1904 says the Poughkeepsie BBC was organized in 1859 by Joseph H. Cogswell, who had played for Rochester's Flour City Club. Article cites the roster of the club, and by-laws. Cogswell later a Union army captain. The early games were played in a lot at Main and White Streets, and later at the circus grounds. The New York Sunday Mercury March 18, 1860 and July 29, 1860 report that this club commenced operations last season. [RH] The Club from Poughkeepsie NY is listed as an NABBP member in 1860. Poughkeepsie NY is on the Hudson River and about 70 miles N of Manhattan. It had 20,080 residents in 1870. |
