| Data | Prior to 1830, “base-ball” had been played against one wall of the ancient church of St. Thomas located in the village of Over-Monnow in Monmouthshire, Wales, according to an article in a Welsh archeological journal: “The west door is quite modern, having been first erected in 1830. Old people tell me that they remember the church, with simply a blank west end wall which served for the purposes of the game of base-ball.” |
