| Data | A report in a newspaper advised that "base-ball" would be one of the many entertainments offered at the coming week's Stanley Hospital Fete, a major fundraising event to be held in conjunction with a royal visit to Liverpool: "There are to be balloon ascents every day by the noted aeronauts Messrs. Yonens and Son; dramatic performances by the cream of local theatrical companies; the inevitable Richardson's Show; athletic sports; old English sports; base-ball and polo matches; pony hurdle races; a bazaar on a large scale; pyrotechnic displays, &c., &c." |
