| Data | “Base-ball” was among the enjoyments offered to the older children attending the Church Sunday School of Boxmoor, Hertfordshire, at their annual treat held on the grounds of the nearby stately home of Ashridge Park. A newspaper reported that the students traveled to the estate by wagon, and a tea was provided to them at four o'clock. “The amusements of the day were swinging, base-ball, bat and trap, cricket, French tag, etc., but the chief attraction was ascending the monument.” |
