Data | Readying the grounds for “base ball” was reported by a newspaper to be among the new improvements being made to a park in Portsmouth, Hampshire: “The Play-Ground in the Park.--Very great improvements are now being made by the Park Committee in the portion of the ground allotted to the children. The rough stones have all been removed to make room for fine gravel which is now being rolled in. Orders have also been given for fixing some stones to act as bases for the games of rounders and base ball.” |

Block Notes | It is notable that “base ball” and rounders are mentioned side-by-side, re-confirming they were separate games. |
