| Data | “Base ball” was one of the games played by a group of 80 young members of the Buckingham Band of Hope at a rescheduling of their annual sports day which had previously been cancelled because of poor weather. A regional newspaper reported that “Some entered into the game of cricket, base ball, &c. The boys and girls ran for prizes, including gloves, belts, handkerchiefs, neckties, &c., purchased by the generosity of a number of friends interested in the promotion of temperance among the younger members of the congregation. |
