| Data | A newspaper reported that “base-ball” was one of several amusements enjoyed at the Bray-wick Rural Fete, an annual gathering in the Berkshire village of Bray-wick, just outside of Maidenhead, that provided “entertainment to the children of the Holyport Boys' School, the Bray-wick Girls' National School, the children and old people connected with the Cookham Union, as well as the inmates of the Asylum at Bray.” While a cricket match was going on in one field, “other portions of the assemblage were scattered over various parts of the ground, engaged with games such as base-ball, trap-ball, foot-ball, swings, kiss-in-the-ring, &c., &c.” |
