Description | The Ottawa Free Trader, June 26, 1858, reports on a "trial of skill" played "Friday of last week" at Marseilles between the Marseilles Base Ball Club and the Base Ball and Wicket Club of Ottawa. It was a three-inning game, played in 3 hours 40 minutes, with Ottawa winning by "21 points" (230 to 209). This does not appear to be the NY game. Two umpires are mentioned, [John] H. Burlison of Ottawa and A. B. Thompson of Marseilles. The Marseilles club prepared a postgame supper, but the "late hour" saw the Ottawa team going home without it. |
