Description | |
Sources | The Tournament on the 4th instant, passed off to the satisfaction of all concerned, in the presence of a large number of spectators. There was but one Club present from abroad – the Actives of Brookfield, who defeated the Orientals of this place by a score of 90 to 16. Several of the best players of the Orientals were ill while on the second inning their pitcher was taken sick, and others were indisposed. This accounts for the result. The fielding of the Orientals was acknowledged to have been the best on the ground, while the Actives, being the senior club, were best at the bat. However, the Orientals hope at some day not far distant to win back their now lost reputation as ballists. There being no club present from N.E. Missouri (although invitations were extended to all clubs,) the silver ball could not be contended for, and still remains in the hands of the Orientals. -Palmyra Spectator (Palmyra, Mo.), July 10, 1868 |
