Description

The New York Clipper, June 20, 1863, reports on a game played between teh Liberty and Champion BBCs, at the Champion's new grounds at 49th St. and 5th Ave. About where Rockefeller Center and Saks Fifth Avenue are today. Other clubs that played there were the Amity and the Columbia.. See Tholkes RIM.

These are the grounds of Columbia College/University. Columbia purchased the Deaf and Dumb Asylum (located at 5th and Madison, Madison being one block east of 5th Ave.) in 1856, and the next year moved there. An 1860 game by the collegiates was played there.
