Data | “Baseball” was among the games enjoyed by the youthful members of the Young Recruits Lodge of the Independent Order of Grand Templars (IOGT) at their annual retreat in Newhaven, East Sussex. According to a newspaper: “The members, numbering about 80, met on the green in front of Mrs. Williams' (superintendent) at two o'clock and proceeded to the hill above the workhouse, where cricket, baseball, bat and trap, and other games were indulged in until teatime.” |
