Description | Location of the first "Virginia State Championship" game, between the Pastimes all-star squad of Richmond and the Monticello Club of the University of Virginia. In the Fan District. The site was erected in 1852 to host the Virginia State Fair, but by the Civil War the Fair had relocated to a larger venue west of the city at Broad and Hermitage. The site of several early ball games, and later the home field of the shortlived Richmond Virginians of the Union Association. |
