Description | Vigilant vs. Hamiltons - A match was to have been played yesterday between the above club on the grounds of the former, Third avenue, corner of thirteenth street. owing to the inclemency of the weather, however, but four innings could be played. At the end of which the score stood Vigilant 19, Hamilton 6. The Hamilton did not play well as they generally do, but feel confident of beating the Vigilants in the next match. This, however, remains to be seen. On the part of the Vigilants, the play of Young at 2d base, VanPelt as short stop, and Messerole as catcher, was very good. The batting of the nine was not up to their usual standard, the fielding of the Hamiltons having but little to do. At the conclusion of the game the Vigilants entertained their quests with a supper at the Clinton House, when songs, toasts and speeches were the order of the day.
