Comment | The earliest report of baseball in California is a mention of the game being played in 1851. There may be an earlier report of the game among Mormon soldiers stationed in San Diego. The Base Ball Club of Sacramento was formed in 1859, played some of the earliest games in the state. Members of the club did include former Brooklyn Putnam E. N. Robinson.
