Description

The Mutuals played the Athletics, both "colored." Washington National Republican, June 12, 1867. Same Aug. 21, 1867 says these teams are played on the Mutual's grounds, between 16th and 17th Sts. west and S/T Sts. north. Mutual won, 21-8.

A "colored" club, the Mutuals, are mentioned as playing in DC in 1869. See Morris, Base Ball Pioneers, p. 266.

Brunson, "Black Baseball" p. 270 says this club formed in 1865.
