Description | The NY Knickerbockers originally played (c. 1842-43) at Madison Square. The next year they moved a mile northeast to the north slope of Murray Hill, between the railroad cut and Third Avenue (per Peverelly, 1866). The next year, felling their grounds threatened by development, they moved their games to Elysian Fields, Hoboken. The Murry Hill house historical marker is at 37th St. and Park (4th) Ave. |

Comment | The 1852 NYC Directory describes a Murray Hill Square, on 4th Ave. between 30th and 34th Streets. It is on old maps. This is a likely location for the games. Edit with form to add a comment |
