Description

The Waukegan Weekly Gazette, Sept. 23, 1871 says the Highlanders of Highland Park beat the Prairie of Libertyville 24-13 at Libertyville on the 20th. The Highlanders were great rivals of the Waukegan teams.

The Chicago Tribune, April 5, 1874, reports on the formation of the Highland Park "Highlander" Base Ball Club on March 26th, and gives the names of the officers. It predicts the new team will soon beat all the others in Lake County.

The Chicago Inter Ocean, May 3, 1874, reports on the election of officers of the Highland park Club, which may be a different club. Elected presdient was F. P. Hawkins, with Schulyer Coe as captain.

Chicago Tribune July 4, 1876: "Highland Park... A base-ball match, that being the first of the season, was played Wednesday afternoon between the Highlanders and the Highwood Club."

Highland Park had 1,154 residents in 1880.
