Description | VMI cadets formed a baseball team in the fall of 1866, and won 20 of 23 contests against local teams, including teams from crosstown rival Washington College. In 1867 they traveled to Lynchburg to play the Hill City Club. From VMI baseball website, http://www.vmikeydets.com/pdf8/766257.pdf The Richmond Times, April 26, 1867 reports on a game between the VMI Cadet Club and the Beechenbrook Club of Washington College. General Robert E. Lee, then president of Washington College, attended the game. Lexington VA (current pop. about 7,000) is about 125 miles W of Richmond. |
