Description | Harold Evans, "Baseball in Kansas, 1867-1940," Kansas Historical Quarterly v. 9, issue 2 (1940) says that Abilene and Salina has baseball clubs in the early 1870s. From the context, it appears that Evans' source was newspaper accounts from 1876 and before. Ablilene was a "wild west" "cow town" that flourished in the 1870s. Future President Dwight Eisenhower played high school baseball there. |
