Description | The Salem News, May 7, 1912 reports that the first Salem baseball club was organized in 1866 by H. W. Brown and "Bish" Sharpnack. Brown captained the team, Sharpnack caught and Ira Brainard was the pitcher. This is probably the Independent club, whose formation was reported in The New York Clipper, Sept. 15, 1866 |
