Description | The Ottawa Free Trader, June 29, 1867, announces the formation of the Avoirdupuis Club. Each member is named, and all are over 200 pounds. Same July 29, 1867, reports that the Young America Club of Ottawa has challenged the Avoirdupuis Club to a match game of ball. This is undoubtedly the club referred to in the July 31st Lacon Home Journal: "Ottawa has a heavy old Base Ball Club. Each member weights two hundred lbs."
