Description | Ciudad Porfirio Diaz (now, Piedras Negras) is across the Rio Grande River from Eagle Pass, Texas. Eagle Pass Guide, Feb. 10, 1894 reports that the AAAC will play more baseball games this season, with F. Piercy as president of the AAAC, and A. L. Dyer captain of the baseball nine. An Anglo team. This club played Durango and Torreon BBCs in 1894, and La Laguna in 1895 (the latter being composed of Hispanics). Cesar Gonzalez Gomez, "A New Perspective on Mexican Baseball Origins," Base Ball, vol. 1 (Spring 2007), 64-72, suggests that baseball came to Piedras Negras in 1885. |
