Description | Because Joe Sprague was "engaged" in a cricket match in Hoboken, NJ, the Eckfords were forced to play the first four innings with 8 men; however, they were led 11-8. As per the Brooklyn Daily Eagle, "On his arrival, however, a decided change took place, the Eckfords putting out their opponent for blank scores on every innings afterwards, not a player of the Resolute securing his first base from the beginning of the fifth innings to the close of the 9th." |
