The St. Louis Globe Democrat, June 29, 1875: "Belleville... A game of base ball between the Riversides of St. Louis and the Red Stockings of this city, played Sunday, resulted in favor of the latter by a score of 18 to 6." Same, Aug. 9, 1875, mentions the Belleville Bluffs and Buckeys among abut a hundred teams that played yesterday in St. Louis and vicinity. Same, Sept. 2, 1875 mentions the St. Clair BBC of Belleville. Same, Sept. 14, 1875 reports a baseball tournament for the championship of Belleville, involving the Buckeyes, St. Clair, Bluffs, Red Stockings and Brown Sox clubs. The (Springfield) Illinois State Journal, Sept. 4, 1876: "Base Ball--Springfield vs. Bellevilles this afternoon." Belleville is near St. Louis
