Description

The Chicago Evening Post, July 17, 1868, reports a picnic of the Olivet Church Sabbath School (of Chicago) at the farm of Dr. Hess, near Naperville, where baseball was played.

Dr. David Hess (1814-85) of Naperville owned a farm that was "just west' of the city at this time.
