Description | The Memphis Avalanche, Aug. 11, 1867, quotes the Louisville Courier as saying "base ball fever" has reached Lexington, Frankfort, Maysville, Paducah, Henderson, Owensboro, Russellville and Bowling Green. By 1869 the Lexington Club was hosting a "Base Ball Tournament" with teams from Louisville, Frankfort, and Cincinnati. See the Cincinnati Commercial Tribune, July 24, 1869. The Cincinnati Daily Gazette, Friday Aug. 24, 1870 says the Cincinnati Red Stockings Jr. beat Lexington 27 to 19 "last Wednesday at Lexington." |
