Description

The New York Clipper, July 9, 1859, under the headline "Base Ball at Petaluma, Cal." reports on a May 17th game with 11 on each side, for "21 innings," the winning side to get "an oyster and champagne supper." C. J. Robinson's side defeated M. Parker's.

From the article, the "21 innings" referred to the number of tallies needed to end a team's inning. The game lasted only 3 such innings.
