Text | "While researching the Olympic Base Ball Club of Paterson for the pioneer project today, I found in the Paterson Daily Press of August 2, 1867 a detailed account of a game of 'old fashioned base ball' between 'two select elevens who never played the modern game.' What I thought was especially interesting is the following: |
Sources | Letter from John Zinn to John Thorn, 2008; Paterson Daily Press, August 2, 1867. |
Warning | The year/years being recalled by the men -- and their ages when seeing (or playing) the old game -- are not specified, and are somewhat arbitrarily assigned here as the 1850s. This is done to ensure that the details are not lost to future scholars |
Comment | From a 19cbb post by John Zinn, Aug. 9, 2008: 'This is only one of about a half dozen accounts of 'old fashioned base ball" games in Paterson in 1867. The games typically lasted six innings with eleven on a side." Edit with form to add a comment |
