Description | In 1870, the Cincinnati Club began charging an admission fee of 50 cents. The Atlantic Club declined to impose this fee, and as a result the Red Stockings bypassed them in their first tour of eastern clubs that year. In time, this price appears to have become the standard for matches between all-professional clubs. |
